Skype registrationIf you want to make a Skype account and you are looking for someone to guide you through the process, then you are in the right place :). I will tell you step by step what you need to do in order to create a new Skype user. Before we begin, I just want to mention that in the steps bellow we have skipped the optional stuff like date of birth, gender and so on, but if you want you can fill them too.

In order to register a Skype account follow these steps:

  1. Visit the page for creating a new Skype account.
  2. Fill in your First name and Last name. Fill in your email address twice.
  3. After that choose your Country and then your Language.
  4. Now fill in your Skype Name. It must be unique (not to be used by any other person in the World) and it can contain only letters and numbers. The first character has to be a letter and the length must be between 6 and 32 characters.
  5. After that, you have to come up with a password, that is at least 6 characters long and contains both letters and numbers. You need to fill it twice in both fields just in case. Remember it, or write it down.
  6. In the last group of fields you can remove the checkbox By Email so you do not receive news related to Skype in your email. Now looking at the image, fill in the characters in the box named Type the text above here. If you do not see them clearly you can get new ones by clicking the Refresh button to the right.
  7. Click the button I Agree – Continue. If everything went fine you should be redirected to the address https://secure.skype.com/account/, and if there is a problem with some of the fields they will be marked with red, and you have to fill them one more time.
  8. Now you can login with your new Skype name and password. If you still haven’t downloaded the program, you can visit our category Download Skype and choose a version.

If you notice that the described process in this article is partially wrong or from Skype has made some changes to it, please let us know in the comments. Thanks :).

Hi. I have described this in the step 4 in the article. You must use English letters and numbers and at least 6 characters total. For example “333xxx” will work. But I would suggest a more complex one.

Unfortunately I cannot do much about these issues with the Skype website. The only things I can say is to try with another browser or if you are doing it from a phone to do it from a PC. If you have more problems about the Skype website you can contact them on the email contactus [at] skype [dot] net

Hi. Latin characters are the ones in the English alphabet. Only they plus numbers can be used in the Skype name field. The first one must be a character (not number).
Example of working Skype name: abcxyz63856

Hi. Are you following the complexity requirements for a password and the character requirements for a username?
Even if you are, try using even more complex password, I read that there might be hidden requirements and forbidden words. So make it really random. Also if you are using a mobile device to register, please use a desktop computer, because there are more bugs otherwise.

It could be also that the site is not working properly. In that case you can contact the Skype people. See my previous comment for the email.

As I am from India I wanted to know if I can pay from my card to start calling phone numbers in Australia and UK.

Hi. After you enter the email in the first field, the second should automatically become active. It may have been some kind of problem and it could have remained inactive (gray). Try again with a different browser and if you are doing it from a phone, try from a desktop PC.
