Do you have a lot of Skype contacts? Is it getting hard to find someone? Here are several tips, that will give you back control over your contact list.
Remove Some of Them
I am sure that you don’t talk to everyone in your huge list of contacts. I bet there are at least few of them you don’t even know who they are! Go through your contacts and remove the people you do not know and the ones that you have not talked to in years.
Rename Everyone Else
All these different nicknames, all kinds of characters, it is pretty confusing. Some Skype users even like to change their name once in a while. How can you tell who is who? Well, you rename all of them and use their real names. In order to do that, right click on a contact and choose Rename.
Group Your Contacts
At least part of your contacts can be grouped by some criteria. For example all your friends from school, or work, or your family. Here are instructions for the different Skype versions:
For Skype 3.8
- Go to the menu View -> Contact Groups and check the checkbox Enable Contact Groups.
- Now in order to create a group go to: View -> Contact Groups -> Create New Contact Group.
- Input a name and press Enter.
- Go to the top of your contact list and start dragging contacts to the area where it says Drag contacts here.
For Skype 4 and Skype 5 (up to 5.9)
- Open the menu Contacts -> Contact Categories and check the checkbox See All Contact Categories.
- Go to: Contacts -> Contact Categories -> Create New Category.
- Input a name and press Enter.
- Go to the top of your contact list and start dragging contacts to the area where it says Drag contacts here.
For Skype 5.10
- In the menu go to: Contacts -> Contact lists -> Create new list…
- Write a name for the list and press Enter
- To see all contacts again go to: Contacts -> Contact lists -> All
- Now to add someone to the new list you can right click on a contact, choose Add to list and click on the list name.
